Our Rescue

Our Rescue is a licensed shelter in the state of Maine and holds a current importation permit. Our Rescue utilizes a private home foster- based system of caring for our dogs. Dogs are fostered local to where they are rescued from and that can be anywhere in our nation. This system works well. It ensures that each animal taken in can quickly get the care it needs. Once a dog has gotten all the care it needs to enter the state of Maine, transportation will be arranged. Dogs also may be adopted locally to where they were rescued from.

Our adoption process is a simple one. It all starts with an adoption application which includes basic information such as a vet reference, home demographics, and a few personal references. Our rescue is very much a one on one matching process. We match up the dog to the family. Once your application is complete give us up to 14 days to check it out. We will contact you with the results. Once an application has been approved we move onto a home visit which may or may not include you meeting your potential new family member. Once this is complete and approved we will go over with you our adoption contract and then bring your new family member to you! We have found this way of doing things works best to reduce the chances of the adoption not working out. In all of our experience doing it this way we have only had 1 dog returned. Our rescue stands behind our adoptions all the way!

Little Paws Big Hearts Pekingese Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)3 rescue. We work with shelters all over the country to help as many dogs as we can. We are made up of Pekingese lovers that volunteer their time to help save dogs. We are always looking for more fosters. The more fosters we have, the more dogs we can save. Please consider opening your heart and home to a special dog that needs a temporary home.

Meet Dude and Smore look at them now! We were called in by a local shelter to take this wonderful pair of seniors. They were surrendered in really bad condition and the shelter needed us to step in. They desperately needed dentals and grooming and their eyes were a mess. Dude also had a heart condition. We stepped to the plate and got them everything they needed and look at them now. At Little Paws we believe there is a family for every dog we take in and these 2 were no exceptions! After being nurtured back to health by their foster they were ready! Their foster reported their favorite pass time together was frog hunting in the water!!! How sweet! After many applications and considerations the perfect home was found and they were on their way to their fabulous new lives! Help us help those who need it most please donate or volunteer today.
